Why We Pay More for Walkable Neighborhoods

image

Instinct probably tells you that you’ll pay a lot more to live in a downtown apartment, above a grocery store, next to a bar strip and within walking distance of your work place than you will to settle into a comparable home in a bedroom community outside of the city. Check out this article about the GOOD Ideas for Cities forum held in Portland on Thursday. ADX approached PNCA Collaborative Design to collaborate on our Marshall High School plan. It turned out pretty awesome. So then we helped present! Looking forward to see what comes of this.

My Voice Music
A nonprofit organization that engages marginalized youth in music and performance in order to promote self-esteem, social skills and emotional expression.
By partnering with local alternative schools and other non-profit agencies we provide free music programs in areas where needs are high but funding for services is low.
All of our services are provided for free, or at a “pay what you can afford” rate, to the youth we serve. Instruments, instruction and funding are provided through the generous support of our community, volunteers and partnerships.

Barter For Instruction: TradeSchool

Take a class with a range of specialized teachers in exchange for basic items and services. Secure a spot in a TradeSchool class by meeting one of the teacher’s barter needs.

Superman will not save public education, but we can.

Since Waiting for “Superman” was first released in theaters in the fall of 2010, our community of parents, teachers, administrators and activists has risen to the challenge and turned a movie into a movement.

Emergent complexity can arise from simple interactions between agents following rules. The complexity that arises is suprising and challenges our assumptions about whether order comes from the top or the bottom. Life and consciousness are examples of emergent phenomena.

About

Here you will be able to see examples of new and old ways of design thinking through student work, sustainable design efforts, systems theory, design ecologies and social design practices. Take a closer look, from a student perspective, at the MFA program in Collaborative design at PNCA. After browsing through these posts and checking out the links you should have a pretty good idea of what it's all about!
