Instinct probably tells you that you’ll pay a lot more to live in a downtown apartment, above a grocery store, next to a bar strip and within walking distance of your work place than you will to settle into a comparable home in a bedroom community outside of the city. As this model of compact urban living grows more popular – and every new housing projection reaffirms that it is – walkable places are also growing more expensive.

Marina Zurkow (guest lecturer at PNCA) makes media works about humans and their relationships to animals, plants and the weather. These reconfigured and inclusive notions of our environment have taken the form of animated videos, customized multi-screen computer pieces, installations, prints, and participatory public art works.
Eco-sculptures are the latest indication that Mexico City has become a leader in environmental efforts for the developing world.

A Collaborative Partnership
Access to parks and natural areas close to home and work has become increasingly important to our communities’ health and well being. The Intertwine Alliance is bringing together local agencies and groups to increase investment in The Intertwine. Alliance members are working together on five Alliance Initiatives: acquisition, active transportation, conservation, conservation education and the regional system.
Big thanks to Morgan O’Hara and Halley Roberts for coming into class last week! They gave a talk about their experience and projects in the PNCA MFA in Collaborative Design program, and then stuck around to give feedback to groups on their projects.
